On May 11, 2024, thousands of Catholics gathered in prayer and devotion to honor Our Lady of Fatima. On May 13, 1917, three young shepherd children—Jacinta and Francisco Marto and their cousin Lucia dos Santos—witnessed the first of several apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Cova da Iria fields near Fatima, Portugal. Our Lady, appearing radiant and sorrowful, entrusted them with a message of prayer and penance, urging the world to turn away from sin and seek God’s mercy.
