A recent article from the Associated Press quotes United Nations climate chief Simon Stiell, declaring that humans have just two years left to “save the world.” In his speech, he called for cutting fossil fuels and a “quantum leap” in climate funding.

The article highlights the scaremongering of ecological extremism that makes climate activists look more like snake-oil salesmen than scientists and statesmen. Such doomsday rhetoric has misled the public for half a century. It is debilitating nations, and it is long past time for the West to stop listening to these fear-mongers.

Here are just a few of the countless dire predictions made by environmental extremists.

  • In 2014, the French foreign minister, Laurent Fabius, advised the U.S. State Department that humanity would have “climate chaos” in just 500 days. This did not happen.
  • In 2008, presidential candidate Al Gore warned of an “ice-free Arctic” by 2013. This did not happen.
  • In 2000, Dr. David Viner, one of the leading climate scientists in the U.K., said that U.K. children won’t know what snow is in just a few years. This did not happen.
  • In 1969, Dr. Paul Ehrlich, one of the world’s leading climate scientists, told the New York Times that “unless we are extremely lucky, everybody will disappear in a cloud of blue steam in 20 years.” This did not happen.

These prophets of doom have predictably predicted the end of the world time and time again, and just as predictably, their fears have repeatedly fallen flat. No other scientific community has such a dismal track record as the climate alarmists.

Many Western nations have fallen for their rhetorical sleight of hand and implemented socialist policies to stop climate change. The result has been nothing but inflicting financial hardship on their people.

Thanks to the Green Agenda, gasoline is more expensive, and businesses struggle to keep up with the costs imposed by its edicts. Those of French President Emmanuel Macron prompted thousands of angry farmers to protest in Paris earlier this year because they could no longer afford to compete with farmers in other countries. In 2019, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and U.S. Senator Edward Markey (D-MA) introduced the Green New Deal. According to economists, the legislation would have cost American taxpayers over $6 trillion annually, with the average household paying around $65,000. Had this bill passed, it would’ve done far more economic damage than any natural disaster could.

Climate activists advocate extreme socio-economic change, such as banning fossil fuels and limiting food consumption. Some even go so far as calling for the extinction of the human race. All of this is happening when there seems to be no imminent threat of a man-made climate catastrophe.

Yet Mr. Stiell insists that we have only two years to act before the end is near. Enough is enough. It is time to stop listening to the boy who cries “climate change.”
