The Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute sadly announces the news of the death of Prince Luiz of Orleans-Braganza with the following communique:

PRINCE LUIZ OF ORLEANS-BRAGANZA, Head of the Imperial House of Brazil, died on July 15 in São Paulo aged 84 after a long illness.

His passing occurs on the bicentennial of Brazil’s Independence, proclaimed by his great-great-grandfather Dom Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil.

The wake will be held in the city of São Paulo at the headquarters of the Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute (IPCO) of which the prince was an esteemed member. Prince Luiz will be buried on July 18 at Consolação Cemetery in São Paulo.

With his death, his brother, Prince Bertrand of Orleans-Braganza, is now Head of the Imperial House of Brazil.

Given the need to maintain a sacral environment at the obsequies of H.I.R.H. PRINCE LUIZ OF ORLEANS-BRAGANZA, and the respect consistent with the religious acts performed during the funeral ceremonies, the Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute recommends that those wishing to attend his wake at its social headquarters on Rua Maranhão, wear formal attire.

Ladies and young women: skirt or dress with sleeves, below the knees, with a neckline consistent with good customs.

Gentlemen: Jacket, pants, dress shirt, and shoes.

Wake, mass, and burial locations:

July 16 and 17, wake at IPCO headquarters. Public visitation from 2 pm to 8 pm. Rua Maranhão, 341—Higienópolis—01240-001—São Paulo SP.

July 18, wake and funeral mass at Santa Teresinha Parish, Rua Maranhão, 617—Higienópolis, São Paulo—SP, 01240-001. The wake starts at 10 am and ends at 1 pm when the funeral mass begins. After mass, the funeral will leave directly to Consolação Cemetery for the burial.
