On the occasion of Pope Benedict XVI’s recent visit to the United States, the American Society for the Defense of Tradition Family and Property (TFP) welcomed him on the streets of Washington when he was returning to the Vatican Embassy after being received by President Bush at the White House.
About 50 TFP members and students of the TFP-staffed St. Louis de Montfort Academy stood out on Massachusetts Avenue with the TFP’s characteristic red standards and capes. In addition TFP members carried a large Pilgrim Virgin statue of Our Lady of Fatima and several banners. One of these banners made an allusion to the scandal at 96 Catholic universities hosting pro-homosexual clubs and activities. It read: “Catholic universities should be entirely faithful to the Church’s teachings.”
In view of the crisis afflicting the Church and the modern world, the most encouraging banner was one that reaffirmed Our Lord’s words founding the papacy: “Thou art Peter! And upon this Rock I will build My Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against Her.” (Matt. 16:18)
