On May 21, a pro-family rally was held at the Columbus, Ohio offices of U.S. Senators Michael Dewine and George Voinovich questioning why they have remained silent in face of the threat posed by the legalization of homosexual “marriage.” They especially questioned the senators’ lack of support for a federal marriage amendment.
The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) was present at the rally with members of its America Needs Fatima campaign. In addition to participating actively in the event, they distributed hundreds of flyers promoting the new TFP hard-hitting book on the issue titled Defending a Higher Law.
Following the rally, a press conference was held at the State Capitol Building where Ohio’s Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell spoke in favor of traditional marriage.
Special mention was made about a petition being circulated by the Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage
(www.ohiomarriage.com) which proposes an amendment to the state constitution which reads: “Only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid on or recognized by this state and its political subdivisions. This state and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance or effect of marriage.” (Copies of the petition can be downloaded at http://www.ohiomarriage.com/MPA_download_page.shtml)
